The first home photovoltaic power station was launched in Qingdao

In a quiet neighborhood on Tongde Road in Qingdao, a groundbreaking solar power system has captured the attention of local residents. Located on the rooftop of a seven-story residential building in Jialinggou Community, this is China's first home-based distributed photovoltaic power station. The system, with a total installed capacity of 2 kilowatts and connected to the grid at 380/220 volts, not only provides electricity for the household but also feeds excess power back into the grid. The project was initiated by Xu Pengfei, the system owner, who invested over 20,000 yuan in the installation. The setup includes four 240-watt polycrystalline silicon panels, five 230-watt polycrystalline silicon modules, and a 2-kilowatt inverter. According to calculations by Qingdao Power Grid, the system is expected to generate approximately 2,600 kilowatt-hours annually. This translates to saving around 0.91 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 2,592 kilograms each year. This initiative reflects the growing interest in renewable energy at the community level. With government support and increasing awareness of environmental sustainability, such projects are becoming more common. An official from the Energy Bureau mentioned that the installed capacity of distributed generation has already exceeded initial projections, with plans to reach 20 million kilowatts by 2015. As more households consider solar energy as a viable alternative, this small yet significant step in Qingdao highlights the potential of decentralized power generation in shaping a cleaner and more sustainable future.
