Recently, Sinovel Wind Power has made a major breakthrough by securing the ETL certification for its 1.5MW and 3MW double-fed wind turbines from Intertek, one of the world’s most respected testing and certification organizations. This marks the first time a Chinese company has received such a certificate for double-fed turbine technology, signaling a significant milestone in the global expansion of Chinese renewable energy solutions.
The ETL certification confirms that Sinovel's wind turbines meet all U.S. and Canadian electrical safety standards, making them eligible for sale and installation in North America. This achievement not only validates the quality and reliability of Sinovel's products but also serves as a crucial step toward entering the competitive North American market.
Sinovel first entered the U.S. market in 2010 and has since been actively exploring opportunities in Canada. The ongoing negotiations for a 2012 wind power project with Canadian partners are expected to benefit significantly from this new certification. With the ETL approval, Sinovel is now better positioned to accelerate its growth strategy in North America and build stronger partnerships with local developers and distributors.
Intertek is a globally recognized authority in product testing and certification. It is an OSHA-accredited National Laboratory (NRTL) in the U.S., a Test Organization (TO) and Certification Authority (CO) accredited by the Canadian Standards Committee (SCC), and an IAS-approved wind power type certification body. Additionally, it holds A2LA accreditation for wind power testing and is an MCS-certified institution approved by the EU and UKAS. Many leading wind energy manufacturers around the world rely on Intertek for their certification needs.
