On December 25th, the first Tilapia Tourism and Cultural Festival kicked off in Maonan District, Maoming City, Guangdong Province. The event brought together business representatives from Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, as well as social elites, experts, professors, and local villagers. Attendees gathered to discuss and provide valuable insights for the region’s economic growth and development.
Ding Jinwen, a member of the Maonan District Party Committee, emphasized that the festival focused on the signing of major projects and their subsequent construction. On the same day, several key projects were officially launched, including the Lotte Hotel, Xinghe Commercial Plaza, Kaidi Biomass Power Generation, an 80,000-ton/year MTBE project, and the Green Tree Coatings Project. These developments marked significant progress in the area's infrastructure and industrial expansion.
In addition to the construction starts, several major contracts were signed during the event, such as the Impression Maoning International Tourism Culture Commercial Plaza, Lotte Wood, Lotte Hot Spring Resort Hotel, Gaohua Home Commercial Plaza, Hong Kong Qihong Electrical Equipment Manufacturing, Hua Yuehua Huaxin Food Grade White Oil and Environmental Protection Agent Hydrogenation, and Jintai Lubricants Hydrogenation Projects. Altogether, these agreements amounted to a total investment of 18 billion yuan.
According to estimates, in 2012, Maonan District attracted a total of 25 billion yuan in investments, including large-scale projects like the 200,000-ton special oil hydrogenation plant, 100,000-ton sec-butyl acetate facility, 150,000-ton solvent reformer, and a 5-million-ton cement grinding station by Conch Group. A series of projects worth nearly 2 billion yuan were completed and started operating, marking the best performance in the southern part of Maoming in the past 27 years.
Through cultural exchanges and networking, the festival successfully secured 11 new investment projects with a combined value exceeding 8 billion yuan. Additionally, six major projects totaling nearly 10 billion yuan were announced, including a five-star hotel developed by the Hong Kong-based Lotte Group. This event not only highlighted Maonan's growing appeal but also set the stage for future economic development and tourism growth in the region.
