When installing an electromagnetic flowmeter, there are three key considerations to ensure its stable and accurate performance. Proper installation is crucial for the device to function correctly over time. Let's explore these important points in detail.
First, choosing the right installation location is essential. Avoid placing the flowmeter near ferromagnetic objects or equipment that generates strong electromagnetic fields, such as large motors or transformers. These can interfere with the sensor’s magnetic field and affect the accuracy of the flow signal. Additionally, the installation site should be dry and well-ventilated. It should not be located in areas prone to moisture or water accumulation, as this can damage the device and reduce its lifespan.
Next, when selecting the position on the pipeline, several factors must be taken into account. The sensor can be installed on vertical, horizontal, or inclined pipelines, but the centerline connecting the two electrodes must remain horizontal. The medium being measured should fully fill the pipe at the installation point to prevent air bubbles from forming on the electrodes, which could distort readings. If the flowmeter is installed in a section where the pipe is not completely full, you can raise the downstream end slightly to ensure it remains filled. Never install the flowmeter at the highest point of the pipeline or at the outlet, as this can lead to inaccurate measurements.
Also, the straight pipe sections before and after the flowmeter are important. The upstream length should be at least 10 times the pipe diameter (DN), and the downstream length should be at least 5 DN. This helps maintain a stable flow profile and ensures more accurate readings.
Regarding wiring, if the flowmeter is installed separately, keep the signal cables as short as possible to minimize interference. Always separate the signal cables from power lines to avoid electrical noise. Do not coil excess cables; instead, cut them to the appropriate length. When the cable enters the sensor’s electrical connection, form a U-shape at the entrance to prevent water ingress, especially in outdoor environments.
