Architectural hardware companies urgently need to increase the added value

In the wake of successful initiatives like "Home Appliances to the Countryside" and "Cars to the Countryside," the latest policy introduced in this year's Central No. 1 document is the "Building Materials to the Countryside." This move has come as a timely relief for architectural hardware companies that have struggled with export challenges, prompting many to shift their focus toward domestic markets. Industry experts believe this policy not only opens up significant opportunities for sectors such as construction hardware but also accelerates industrial restructuring, promotes the growth of competitive enterprises, and helps phase out outdated production capacities. According to reports, the building materials entering rural areas must meet national standards, be produced by reputable manufacturers, and possess a certain level of scale and quality. Although these products may be priced lower, those with outdated production methods or low technological content will not qualify. The initiative aims to promote advanced, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient building materials while excluding low-tech, polluting, and high-energy-consuming alternatives. China is widely known as a major global manufacturer of hardware products, largely due to its abundant and inexpensive labor force. However, many of its products still lack technological sophistication, and there is a pressing need for the industry to transition from mere producers to innovators. High-quality products are often exported to Europe and the U.S., while lower-grade items remain in the domestic market. To thrive, Chinese hardware companies must invest in core technologies and develop their own unique product lines. The architectural hardware industry is now witnessing a growing trend toward low-carbon solutions. As the construction sector moves toward greener, more sustainable practices, the demand for energy-saving and environmentally friendly hardware is expected to rise steadily. Companies are increasingly focusing on innovation and efficiency, aiming to meet the evolving needs of the market. At the same time, the industry is making greater efforts to conserve resources and protect the environment, striving to shift its structure toward more technology- and knowledge-driven sectors, while reducing the share of high-pollution, high-energy industries in the economy. Currently, some domestic architectural hardware companies are transitioning from simple manufacturing to high-value-added, innovative enterprises. They are positioning themselves as international, professional, and technology-focused brands, primarily targeting overseas markets. These suppliers are placing greater emphasis on brand development and technological advancement, preparing themselves to explore new opportunities in the expanding domestic market.
