Furniture industry has no unified "three guarantees" regulations

With the increasing pace of furniture renewal, the city's furniture market has entered a period of rapid development. Major furniture stores and well-known **furniture brands** are engaging in fierce promotional campaigns. However, the lack of a unified "three guarantees" policy in the furniture industry remains a major issue. Consumers often face difficulties in protecting their rights, as cases of infringement continue to occur. In September this year, Mr. Feng purchased a high-end sofa from a local furniture store for over 12,000 yuan. The merchant did not provide an invoice. Shortly after bringing it home, he discovered a visible crack in the **sofa**. Additionally, the promised items—three seat cushions and five pillows—were never delivered. When Mr. Feng contacted the merchant, he was met with resistance. The merchant agreed to a return but refused a full refund, demanding that Mr. Feng pay a 2,000 yuan service fee and cover the costs of transportation, cushion production, and freight. After media intervention, the merchant sent the missing items, but the request for a full return remained unfulfilled. Currently, there is no specific "three guarantees" regulation in the domestic furniture industry. While the national standard "Consumer Use Instructions (Furniture)" mentions a two-year quality assurance period, it lacks detailed provisions on time limits, responsible parties, and operational guidelines. In case of disputes, the Consumer Association mediates based on laws like the Consumer Protection Law and Product Quality Law, along with manufacturer and distributor commitments. However, these commitments vary widely, leading to high costs and disagreements during product evaluations, making it difficult for consumers to resolve conflicts. The Administration for Market Regulation advises consumers to carefully review purchase agreements, focusing on product quality, after-sales service, and breach clauses. It’s important to agree on terms in writing and verify details such as model, style, and materials. Consumers should also be cautious of unfair "overlord clauses" and keep all receipts, invoices, warranty cards, and promotional materials. This ensures they can file complaints or appeal to authorities if issues arise. (Editor: Peter)
