How to effectively deal with the deformation of the shelves and door panels of customized furniture?

Meijun Furniture teaches you how to deal with the deformation of customized furniture!

As we all know, the main components that constitute panel furniture include side panels, shelves, door panels, top or front panels, and back panels. The main deformations of panel components include elastic bending, warpage, and creep of panel components.

Among them, warpage and creep largely depend on the inherent quality of the substrate itself, and the elastic bending of components, in addition to the quality of the board itself, mainly depends on the management of the production process and the processing of the process.

For the elastic deformation under the action of external force, it is a more complicated problem, taking the shelf and the long door of the high cabinet as examples.

Bending deformation of shelf

01. Force form of shelf

â‘  Compression stress: it is the stress caused by the pressure of the load-bearing object and the weight of the shelf (the main cause of the deformation of the shelf);

â‘¡Bending pressure: It is the stress formed by the bending distance, which can make the shelf bend and creep;

â‘¢Shearing stress: formed by the shearing effect of the pressure and supporting force at the bearing shelf support or the interface of the connector;

â‘£Paint curing stress: internal stress caused by the inconsistent shrinkage of the cured surface of the paint on the shelf surface causes the shelf to bend and deform;

02. Method to reduce shelf bending

â‘ Using the base material with higher elastic modulus:

Such as blockboard, veneer fiberboard, veneer chipboard, etc .;

â‘¡ Increase the width and thickness of the shelf section:

That is, wider and thicker materials are used, but for fiberboard and particleboard, excessive thickness increases both cost and affects the appearance. Therefore, in practice, a thickness of 19mm is generally appropriate. It can also be reinforced with thin metal strips or hardwood strips with ribs on the sides of the shelf.

â‘¢ Reduce the span of the shelf:

One is to reduce the length of the shelf itself, and the other is to add a middle partition to support it. Therefore, in actual production, a shelf of 1000mm is rarely used. Except in special cases, generally 800-900mm is used.

â‘£Connect the shelf to the back panel:

If conditions permit, the shelf can be fixed on the backplane or placed on the backplane. At present, the backboard of general furniture is made of 3mm plywood and 3mm medium density fiberboard. Its own strength is not large, and it is not suitable to drill holes on it. However, glue can be used to fix the long shelf or add a special shelf Pins, which can greatly reduce the bending of the shelf.

⑤Adopt movable shelf:

For many panel furniture, there is a certain amount of bending deformation in the shelf. For those with larger spans, even if there is no load, they will sag due to their own weight. If you use movable shelves, when When bending deformation occurs, the shelf can be turned over and used, and after a period of time, it will return to its original state due to the external force and action of the phase plate, but this will easily accelerate the creep.

â‘¥Strengthen process management:

Many bending deformations are caused by human factors during processing, such as improper placement, moisture absorption, improper coating process, etc. Therefore, strengthening the production process management is also an important means to reduce the bending deformation of the plate.

Deformation of door panel parts

The quality of cabinets directly affects the sales of cabinets and wardrobes. According to incomplete statistics, the most dissatisfied consumer is the warpage of cabinet doors. In fact, in addition to the material and design reasons, the influence of unfavorable factors during the processing is the main reason for the bending deformation of the long door of the high cabinet.

01. Deformation caused by stacking of parts

In production, some operators stack the boards at random, or the pads of the stacked boards are uneven, or even lean the board against the wall, so that the board will enter before the next process. Deformed due to its own weight.

02. Deformation caused by painting process

â‘ The effect of painting putty:

When finishing cabinet door parts, many manufacturers use pig blood putty or glue-made putty in order to reduce costs. Because these two putties contain a lot of moisture, the commonly used substrates for panel furniture-MDF and particle board The hygroscopicity is particularly strong, so when one side of the door panel part is not coated with putty, and the other side is coated with this kind of moisture-rich putty, it will make the door panel part absorb moisture and deform.

â‘¡The influence of the drying process:

In the production of many manufacturers, when the board is coated with putty or paint, it must be placed on the drying rack for natural drying. If the support rod of the drying rack is too sparse or uneven, it will also cause the cabinet door parts to dry in the paint. Bending deformation was found during the process.

â‘¢The influence of internal stress of paint

The coating will form a certain coating after curing, even if there is no external force, it will generate an internal stress. If the internal stress is not handled properly, it will become one of the main causes of the bending deformation of the cabinet door component.

03. Several methods to avoid deformation of cabinet door parts

â‘  Reasonable stacking:

As soon as the raw materials enter the workshop, the other party should be level, kept dry, and try not to lean on other objects.

â‘¡Use the drying rack correctly:

Reasonable arrangement of the density of the drying and drying bracket of the board, generally requires that its width is only slightly shorter than the length of the board, it is best to use angle iron welding to form a multi-layer iron frame with a spacing of about 300mm.

â‘¢ Reduce the impact of putty moisture:

The resin-type putty (also known as putty) that is matched with the paint is mostly used. It contains almost no water, but it contains active groups for the matching paint, which can form a strong paint film with the paint, thereby reducing the moisture on the base. The effect of the material's moisture swelling.

â‘£ Reasonably choose paint:

It is a better choice to use a coating with a smaller shrinkage stress. For example, unsaturated polyester, polyurethane, and UV-curing coatings have relatively small shrinkage stress, which helps reduce the influence of internal stress on the bending of board components.

⑤ Use different film materials:

At present, many panel furniture are decorated with thin wood or decorative paper. During processing, materials with less shrinkage stress can be attached to the front side, and materials with greater shrinkage and sharpness can be attached to the back side. When the front coating is thicker and the back coating is thinner, it can also offset part of the shrinkage stress.

â‘¥ The door dumplings with higher rigidity are adopted:

Generally, after adopting one or more of the above methods, a certain effect can generally be achieved. The remaining slight warpage deformation can be corrected by strong door dumplings, which basically does not affect the appearance of the product.

⑦ Hard material edging:

Using hard, dry and shaped wood or metal strips for edge banding and edging, this not only can play a certain role in decoration and embellishment, but also can correct the deformation of door components.
