**Citizen Anti-Theft: "Smart Door Locks" Gain Popularity**
A few days ago, Mr. Zhang, who lives on Wenchang Road, noticed that his neighbor had installed a new type of lock. Unlike traditional locks, this one only needs to be placed in the sensing area for identification, and the door unlocks automatically. “It’s like using a fingerprint at work—it’s really convenient,†he said. When he asked about it, he learned that his neighbor had upgraded to a high-tech lock for better security, which cost nearly 3,000 yuan, leaving him a bit shocked.
It turns out that smart locks are becoming more common in the market. Besides fingerprint locks, electronic locks are also gaining popularity. To open these, you simply place the key’s sensor in the lock’s detection area, or insert the key into the keyhole for access.
However, Mr. Zhang still has doubts. “These locks seem high-tech, but how effective are they against theft?†he wondered.
**Lock Prices Vary Widely**
After visiting several hardware stores, the reporter found that there are many types of door locks available today—mechanical locks, B-level locks, electronic locks, and fingerprint locks—with prices ranging from just a few yuan to over 3,000 yuan.
One shop owner joked, “The height of the road is one foot. With thieves getting more skilled, we need better security.†He advised people to consider upgrading older locks if they’ve been in use for years.
The reporter saw that electronic and fingerprint locks typically cost between 1,000 and 3,000 yuan. One store owner admitted that even a 3,000-yuan fingerprint lock might not be as secure as it seems. “The main factor is the lock cylinder’s resistance to picking,†he said. “Fingerprint locks aren’t completely safe.â€
**Enhancing Security Requires Awareness**
Cao Liu, a senior officer from the Yunyan Branch of the Guiyang Public Security Bureau, explained that most homes come with A or B-level locks installed by developers. Older models may include word or cross locks. Currently, anti-theft locks are categorized into three levels: A, B, and Super B. Upgrading from A/B to Super B is seen as a growing trend for home safety.
He noted that professional thieves can open A or B-level locks in just a few seconds, often without damaging the lock. However, opening a Super B-level lock could take several hours, and sometimes requires destructive methods. According to police data, most burglary victims had A or B-level locks, while fewer had electronic or fingerprint locks. But this doesn't mean those high-tech options are completely foolproof.
Cao emphasized that Super B locks offer a good balance of price and security. Still, no lock is 100% safe. “The best defense isn’t just the lock, but the awareness of the residents,†he said. He encouraged people to stay alert, maintain good security habits, and participate in community efforts to prevent crime. Together, these actions create the strongest form of protection.
