What are the main components of the jacking device?
The jacking system used in pipe jacking projects typically consists of several key components, including jacks, high-pressure oil pumps, top irons, tool pipes, and equipment for earth removal and transportation. These elements work together to ensure smooth and efficient tunneling operations without disturbing the surface.
(1) Jacks
Jacks are the core part of the jacking system, responsible for applying the force needed to push the pipe forward. In this project, four 300-ton hydraulic jacks are planned for each working pit. The arrangement of these jacks is designed as a combined unit to ensure that the direction of the jacking force aligns with the reaction force from the pipe wall. This alignment is crucial to avoid misalignment or deviation caused by moment couples. According to field experience, when using mechanical excavation, it's recommended that the jack’s contact point be positioned at about 1/4 to 1/5 of the pipe's vertical diameter, especially when there is a gap between the pipe's upper wall and the surrounding soil.
(2) High-Pressure Oil Pump
The high-pressure oil pump is driven by an electric motor and operates at a rated pressure of 31.5 MPa. It supplies hydraulic fluid to the jacks through a distributor and control valves. The oil lines for each jack are connected in parallel to ensure uniform stroke and output across all jacks, which is essential for consistent performance during the jacking process.
(3) Top Iron
The top iron serves as a critical component that transmits and distributes the jacking force. It must be strong enough to withstand the high pressures involved without deforming and should be easy to handle during installation and removal. There are three types of top irons based on their position: horizontal top iron, vertical top iron, and U-shaped top iron. Each type is used depending on the specific conditions of the tunneling operation.
(4) Additional Equipment
A mobile working platform is installed in the working pit, constructed using 30-gauge steel beams and 15×15 cm wooden planks. A sliding platform is also set up at the wellhead to facilitate pipe placement and retrieval. An overhead lifting frame is mounted on the working platform, equipped with an electric hoist capable of lifting more than the weight of the pipe. This ensures safe and efficient handling of materials during the construction process.
