At present, Tianjin University's State Key Laboratory of Precision Measurement Technology and Instruments, Institute of Precision Instrument and Opto-Electronics, and the Scientific Research Team of the Nanchang Institute of Micro-Technology of Tianjin University have made breakthroughs in this direction. The mobile phone is an electronic device for wireless communication technology. It can silently realize high-speed data transmission. However, such a "powerful" mobile phone is still hard and inflexible, because it is still a research problem to allow a flexible electronic device to have a high-speed wireless communication capability.

The Tianda Scientific Research Team has pioneered flexible RF filtering technology and has successfully developed a flexible RF filter using an innovative process called FlexMEMS (Flexible Microelectromechanical System) that can be directly applied to wireless RF communication of flexible electronics. The research results were completed by doctoral student Jiang Yuan under the guidance of Professor Pang Weiwei and Zhang Menglun.

RF filters are indispensable core building blocks in wireless RF communication modules. The role of wireless RF communication module is to receive, transmit and fine processing (filtering, amplification, modulation and demodulation, digital-to-analog conversion, etc.) data and information. The RF filter can avoid mutual interference between RF electromagnetic signals from different sources and different purposes. It plays a role in screening specific target electromagnetic wave signals.

The team's first FlexMEMS process technology enables the manufacture of micro-electromechanical devices with high-precision movable microstructures on ultra-thin plastic substrates, solving the problem of rough-surfaced, high-temperature-resistant polymer substrates, high-quality thin films, and high-precision movable micro Structural incompatibility issues in device design, manufacturing, and packaging.

In addition, this technology is not limited to manufacturing flexible RF filters. It can also be applied to the manufacture of a variety of flexible MEMS devices such as pressure gauges, accelerometers, gyroscopes, ultrasonic identification and imaging units, projection imaging units, microphones, etc. Flexible electronic devices have a stronger ability to perceive the external world (such as virtual reality) and even affect the external world (such as reality enhancement).

“Next, we plan to develop a flexible electronic system with complete wireless RF communication capabilities based on the existing flexible RF filtering technology. Not only is the handset 'flexible and extendable', it can be bent, allowing flexible electronic devices to have “communication”.
