In recent years, a significant portion of high-efficiency cutting tools used in China's machining industry has been imported from abroad or supplied by foreign-funded enterprises operating within the country. While China is now exporting a considerable number of cutting tools, most of these are low-cost, standardized products. For instance, in 2004, the country produced approximately 2.5 billion cutting tools, with around 2 billion being exported as inexpensive and basic tools. This trend continued in the following years, with exports mainly focused on mid-to-low-end products.
Currently, China's tool manufacturers primarily produce traditional, standard cutting tools. However, based on the technological development trends in the machinery manufacturing sector, the share of high-efficiency CNC machine tools in Chinese factories is expected to grow steadily over time. As a result, the demand for advanced and efficient cutting tools is rising rapidly, while the need for conventional, standard tools is gradually declining.
At present, the supply and marketing situation in China's tool industry shows that high-end, advanced cutting tools are largely imported, while low-grade tools are mostly exported, often leading to overcapacity and market saturation. This imbalance must be addressed urgently. Unlike developed countries, which widely use high-efficiency cutting tools, China still relies heavily on standard tools, resulting in significantly lower processing efficiency compared to international standards.
