Giteco introduces new ZXCT1050 current monitor

Semiconductors introduces the new ZXCT1050 current monitor. The new device features a wide range of general-mode input voltage ranges—from ground to supply voltages up to 2V—to provide accurate current measurements even in the event of a load short. The device's current output topology and extremely low bias voltage help increase functionality and can be optimized for low in-line voltage drops.

The ZXCT1050 current monitor can operate on both the high and low sides of the load, supporting dynamic output current limiting circuits for a variety of applications, from power brick to motor control circuits.

According to Li Jinhua, vice president of sales for Zetex Asia Pacific, the ZXCT1050 converts the voltage on the external sense resistor into a precise proportional output current. Because its voltage gain can be programmed (precisely set with two external resistors), designers can choose the right sense resistor value to achieve the best balance between accuracy and power dissipation.

Compared to other larger packaged devices, the ZXCT1050 current monitor has a quiescent current of ten times lower at 50μA, which helps improve overall power efficiency. The device is available in a compact SOT23-5 package and is fully specified over the extended industrial temperature range of –40oC to 125oC.
