BMW iNext electric driverless flagship car or debut in 2021

According to "Automotive News", after Audi and Mercedes-Benz announced plans to launch electric vehicles with longer cruising range, BMW said that its iNext electric driverless car will be unveiled in 2021.

The BMW iNext is set to be higher than the 7-series sedan and will be the flagship of the brand. At the annual shareholder meeting in Munich on May 12th, the brand CEO Harald Krueger said that iNext will be "a new driving force for innovation, with automatic driving technology and digital networking." Technology, smart lightweight design and a new interior will eventually be the next generation of electric mobility tools on the road."

Both Mercedes-Benz and Audi are planning to launch electric vehicles with a maximum range of 500 kilometers in 2018. The latter will start production of the first pure electric vehicles and batteries in its Brussels-based plant, and an electrification will be launched every year from 2018. The car will achieve fully automatic driving technology by 2025. And because of the sluggish sales of i3 electric vehicles with BMW's cruising range of up to 160 kilometers in 2013, it failed to win a large number of consumers like Tesla Model 3, so the brand decided to spend eight years over competitors. iNext is the model for competitors such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Tesla, Apple and Google Technologies.

For the first time this year, BMW lost its position as the world's best-selling luxury car brand since 2005. Mercedes-Benz, with its revitalized product lineup, took the lead in the first quarter of this year, and its sales growth rate is twice that of BMW.

In order to achieve sales growth, BMW has developed incentives to encourage consumers to purchase their vehicles. According to data from Bloomberg, in the first quarter of this year, the average price of the X1 hatchback was reduced by 5.9% to 33,700 euros ($38,500) due to the demand for the lower-priced X1 hatchback. However, Kruger still said that BMW is gradually achieving its 2016 target, and its pre-tax profit and sales volume will increase slightly, setting a record for sales in the seventh year.
