**(2) The Manufacturing Process of Solid Cages:**
The production of solid cages varies depending on the raw materials or the type of damage. Before machining, the blanks can be divided into four main types: solid material, pipe material, forgings, and castings. The entire manufacturing process includes: turning the inner diameter, outer diameter, and end face, chamfering, drilling (or pulling holes, boring), pickling, final inspection, anti-rust treatment, packaging, and finally storage.
**Second, the Installation Process of Rolling Bearings:**
Once the rolling bearing components—such as the inner ring, outer ring, rolling elements, and cage—pass inspection, they are moved to the installation workshop. The installation process typically includes: demagnetization and cleaning, measuring and grouping internal and external raceways, setting up, checking clearance, riveting the cage, final inspection, demagnetization, rust prevention, packaging, and then moving to the finished product warehouse for boxing and shipping.
**Fourth, Advantages of Rolling Bearings Over Sliding Bearings:**
Rolling bearings offer several advantages over sliding bearings:
1. **Lower Friction Coefficient**: Rolling bearings have a much smaller friction coefficient compared to sliding bearings, leading to higher efficiency. While sliding bearings typically have a friction coefficient of 0.08–0.12, rolling bearings only have 0.001–0.005.
2. **Standardization and Mass Production**: Rolling bearings are standardized, serialized, and generalized, making them easy to produce in large quantities and convenient for use and maintenance.
3. **High Strength and Longevity**: Made from bearing steel and heat-treated, rolling bearings provide excellent mechanical properties and long service life, reducing the need for expensive non-ferrous metals used in sliding bearings.
4. **High Precision and Rigidity**: With very small internal clearance and high machining precision, rolling bearings offer high working accuracy. They can also be preloaded to increase rigidity, which is essential for precision machinery.
5. **Dual Load Capacity**: Some rolling bearings can handle both radial and axial loads, simplifying the design of bearing support systems.
6. **Efficient Operation and Low Heat Generation**: Due to their high efficiency, rolling bearings generate less heat, reducing lubricant consumption and maintenance efforts.
7. **Versatile Orientation**: Rolling bearings can be installed in any orientation in space, offering greater flexibility.
**However, Rolling Bearings Also Have Certain Drawbacks:**
Despite their advantages, rolling bearings also have limitations:
1. **Smaller Load Capacity per Volume**: Rolling bearings have a smaller load capacity relative to their size compared to sliding bearings. This makes them less suitable for applications requiring high radial loads with compact layouts, such as crankshafts in internal combustion engines.
2. **Noise and Vibration Sensitivity**: Rolling bearings can produce more vibration and noise, especially in the later stages of operation. In high-precision environments where minimal vibration is required, sliding bearings may be more appropriate.
3. **Sensitivity to Contaminants**: Rolling bearings are particularly sensitive to foreign particles like metal chips. These can cause intermittent noise and early damage. Even without visible damage, the lifespan of a rolling bearing is generally shorter than that of a sliding bearing.
While each type has its own strengths, rolling bearings and sliding bearings serve different purposes and cannot fully replace each other. Rolling bearings, however, have gained significant popularity due to their outstanding performance, and they are now widely used as the primary bearing type in modern machinery. Their application continues to expand across various industries.
