Hearing protection is very important

Among all health problems, hearing loss is considered the most widespread but least recognized problem. The best way to prevent hearing loss is to reduce workplace noise, ensure that the machine is well maintained, purchase a low-noise machine, or investigate the possibility of muffling existing machines with materials that reduce noise.

Employees cannot be exposed to noise above 85 decibels (dBA) for 8 hours a day, otherwise hearing will gradually diminish. If employees are exposed to noise above 85 decibels, the exposure time must be less than 8 hours, or protective measures should be taken.

If the noise level is higher than or equal to 85 dB, then a hearing protection plan needs to be implemented. The first step is to perform noise monitoring, determine the exact exposure value, and identify which employees should be included in the protection program. This test can be done at different locations throughout the day using a volume meter, or a noise meter can be used to measure the employee's continuous exposure throughout the working day.

Hearing tests are conducted for those employees identified in noise monitoring who will work in a noisy environment. An initial audiogram is created for each employee before starting work, and the hearing curve is measured each year to detect if hearing loss has occurred.

The final step is to implement a control plan to train employees in the correct use of protective equipment such as earplugs and earmuffs. If hearing loss occurs, the factory may need more training and enforcement measures.
