Egyptian scientists develop nanomaterial dressings

Diabetic patients are often at risk of serious infections after open wounds because of their anti-blood coagulation and reduced immune system function. The research team at the University of Alexandria in Egypt has developed a silver ion dressing method that promotes wound healing in diabetic patients and reduces the threat of infection. The dressing material consists of nanofiber materials made of low-cost cellulose acetate. These fibers are electrospun and added to the silver nanoparticles. When the silver ions have good antibacterial properties, no metal poisoning occurs.

This material can infiltrate into liquid and air, so it can make the wound easily breathe and it can also play a good protection. The results of a laboratory test of open wounds in diabetic mice were excellent. The dressings of this material can provide very good antibacterial protection while accelerating the healing of collagen in the skin tissue.
