New aluminum casting alloy for ship propeller

According to the recent report of the United States "Advanced Materials & Processing Technology", Mercury Marine researchers in the United States have developed a new type of casting alloy for propellers with high impact strength, and this series of aluminum alloys was named Mercalloy. The researchers compared the Mercalloy 366 with the aluminum alloys AA514 and AA365. The development of this series of new aluminum alloys focused on the composition of the chemical composition to exclude Fe, while in the traditional 300 series aluminum die casting alloys, Fe was contained, and in the Mercalloy alloy, Sr was used. Tests show that the Mercalloy alloy has higher impact resistance than the AA514 alloy. Strength, which improves ductility, the use of the alloy processed propeller is not sensitive to the casting temperature, and AA5365 is sensitive to the casting temperature. Both Mercalloy and AA365 alloys exhibit better castability than aluminum-magnesium alloys. Mercalloy alloys also have better energy absorption properties and higher flexural resistance under load.
