The first genetically modified salmon on the dining table

According to China Daily, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently released a draft evaluation for genetically modified carp (also known as salmon). The draft states that the "transgenic Atlantic carp" developed by AquaBounty of the United States will not constitute humans. Significant health or environmental threats mean that transgenic salmon may become the world's first edible genetically modified animal.

It is understood that genetically modified carp is a special fish that fuses two kinds of fish genes and grows at twice the speed of common carp. Since growth hormone in the body can keep it growing for up to one year, it is 16 to 18 months. The body size of the transgenic salmon is basically equivalent to about 30 months of common carp. After undergoing rigorous food safety inspections, the FDA believes that there is currently no strong scientific evidence to prohibit the production of genetically modified salmon, so it may soon be put into commercial farming. The FDA will provide the final conclusion after consulting the public within the next 60 days.
