The 9th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Summit opened in Macau on June 7. With the theme of “cultivating new kinetic energy, promoting infrastructure construction and interconnectionâ€, the forum attracted more than 1,500 political and business academics from more than 60 countries and regions.
The Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, Chui Sai On, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, stating that the Infrastructure Forum is an important platform for exchanging the experience of the “Belt and Road†initiative. At the opening ceremony, the organizers also released the “One Belt and One Road†National Infrastructure Development Index (2018) and the “Belt and Road†National Infrastructure Development Index Analysis Report (2018). The report shows that the “One Belt, One Road†infrastructure interconnection and cooperation is getting closer, with Indonesia, Singapore and Pakistan ranking among the top three country indexes.
The report also reveals several characteristics of infrastructure development in countries along the “Belt and Roadâ€, including the overall improvement of international infrastructure development. It is expected that the infrastructure development index will continue to grow steadily in the next three years; the development momentum in Southeast Asia remains strong. Brazil, Portugal and Angola in the Portuguese-speaking countries have made remarkable progress; the transportation industry and the energy industry will continue to provide support for the development of international infrastructure.
In addition, the 4th China-Latin America Infrastructure Cooperation Forum hosted by the Ministry of Commerce will be held during the forum. At the same time, a meeting will be held between Macao and mainland enterprises to expand the exchange of Macao enterprises and mainland enterprises, and seize the opportunity of the “Belt and Road†infrastructure projects.
