Under the support of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' pilot project “Key Technologies and Demonstration for Clean Coal High-efficiency Cascade Utilization” and the 863 project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Shanxi Coal Chemistry Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Shenhua Coal-to-oil Chemical Co., Ltd. have completed a 1,000-ton coal base. The selectivity of alcohol is more than 60%, daily production of 15 tons of low-carbon alcohol, and further separation of industrial grade C1-C3 chemical alcohol products and C4+ alcohol fuel additives, this result is better than public reports at home and abroad.

After more than 20 years of research, the relevant research team of Shanxi Coal Chemical Research Institute has been making unremitting efforts for a long time, focusing on syngas-derived low-carbon alcohol technology, carrying out research on reaction mechanism, catalyst and process optimization, and developing coal-based syngas to produce high-value-added chemical alcohols and fuel additives. New catalyst and its gentler supporting process route. The first Kiloton-scale syngas to low-alcohol industrial side-line unit in China achieved long-period stability, further promoted the industrialization of the technology, and opened up a non-petroleum route to produce oxygen-containing liquids using coal-based syngas as raw materials.
